JKT / Chinatown

I remember strolling around Glodok, Asemka, Beos, and Pasar Pagi as parts of Jakarta Chinatown a month ago. This could be my happiest site- surveying ever. People are friendly and all smiley despite this town tough daily life.
For one of the oldest trading and economic center area, people live in broken and poor situation are an obvious contradiction. If I can say view words to describe this area, I would choose, organic, multicultural, claustrophobic and above all, warmest part of the city. Shoutout to every kind people I made acquaintance, to every people struggling and smiling for better days they've been wanting to see.

for never give up hope.

  1. jakarta... i have mixed feeling about the city. the first time i lived there for 3 months doing my internship, all i could think about every single day was coming home. the second time i lived there for a few months for work, it's more bearable. that yes, that city is tough, but it's doable. and then i got to see the life of so many different people from all different social level, and i was grateful that despite whatever the city is, i still found 'real' people in that place that is home for more than 10 millions humans of Indonesia

  3. Niken: Oh I'm sorry to hear about those 3 months! were they really that bad?
I, too have thought about move somewhere far from here every single day.
But since I can't move for good anytime soon, then well, loving this city is the only choice I had. And yes. some real and simple and honest people always keep my heart warm about this city. Sometimes they turned tragedies into things to joke about which pretty much taught me how to be grateful in every situation.
