Film & city

“Walkers are 'practitioners of the city,' for the city is made to be walked. A city is a language, a repository of possibilities, and walking is the act of speaking that language, of selecting from those possibilities" A qoute by Rebecca Solnit which I found as an opening paragraph of one of the short story inside the book, Tales of Two Cities: The best and worst times in today's New York. I'm half way finish reading this book and I wanted to say that I'm in love with all of the opening stories. It feel like I share the same feeling and perspectives with some of the authors of the book.  People are the atom of the city and whether we're realize it or not, we depend our daily mechanism of move around from one place to another in the city by system that are already there. Arranged by city planner, government policies, execute by local authorities, and lived by us. The atom. A city can be monstrously ugly or enchantingly beautiful depends on what kind of glass...

Hello! These are the result for my first black and white film.  The last photo is one of the chicken place around my neighborhood where I'm loosing count on how many time that I spent there enjoying unexpensive coffees and free Wifi. I like black and white as much as I like to imagine how documentation and recording movies worked before color television are invented. In monochrome we depend on light to define an object. Darker and lighter tone to render the images. I like the color one better because black and white looks sad to me. Life has been 'black and white' these past months for me too. I'm still hoping for better days to come...

The Changing Pattern of The Tides

Watch the sea rise and fall! Atone, for the fisherman. As the sun changing beneath the shore, And skin to skin with the sand . Do not race with time, I tell you, do not! 'Cause we only know how to be late And sinking right after .. I always choose a mountain over a beach to show how I really hate the sun and how annoying for me to stand under the strong sunlight. Until I experienced living in the city that surround by water and lit intensely by the ultraviolet everyday. Everything looks dazzling more than the way they normally do. So I guess that's what makes me appreciate every little things more.. Like how I love every minute that I spent there, every person that I had the chance to know and befriends with, every morning ride with a rice field view, every sunset, every ceremonies songs that I overheard when days started to getting darker, every food, the calm I felt in that one favorite coffee shop of mine, The 30 minutes ride to the beautiful beach, afternoon hike, old templ...

Day of Silence.

I love pause point.      I call all silences and alone time a pause point because in my view it's when you stop for a moment to take a break from everything you routinely do. Working, socializing or even to stop your train of thoughts. It's been a month since I move to Bali (temporarily or to settle I still don't know yet) and tomorrow I'll be experiencing Nyepi day for the first time in my life. Not like I'm not usually feeling lonely half of my adult life, but it's different now because I have to do it practically. Practical means that I have to turn off any lights, I shouldn't be driving, no internet, no loud music, and have zero access to mini markets, bank, gas station or any other public facilities that need human to operate them. People will stay at home when it's getting dark into the night after all rituals and religious ceremonies. These activities on Nyepi fascinates me in some way. I have this feeling that people should do this more than...

Still a Beginner

Allora!  here are results for my fourth roll and I can say that I wasn't so fail this time. It still look over-contrast for my taste but still, I love how it turned out! It was 2015 when I started my interest on analog photography and I'm still not good enough. Maybe because I wasn't so productive. Can you count, 2 years has passed, only on my fourth roll.      These are taken in RPTRA Kalijodo, Jakarta. A brief history about this place, it's quite interesting I tell you. This place was originally, an infamous place for prostitution and gamble around Penjaringan area. Kali means river and Jodo means soulmate. Which kind of a poetic name for a red-light district.. However, this place is one of the oldest part of Jakarta contain many interesting history of all kind you can easily find on Wiki. Thus, it's been through some of the important country timeline, culture and public function. As one of Ahok, Jakarta former governor work mission, this place...

I process my film roll weeks ago, that was my first time did it, so the result kind of surprised me. They didn't came out good enough but I really love the feeling of taking picture with analog and follow all the process to enable you to see the photo result. I like all those waiting it intriguate. But maybe I'm just the kind of person who like vintage things. I like records, listen musics from cd play from heavy boombox, old thick sweater, really old movies and etc. These photo taken while I went to an architecture exhibition at Kota Tua, Jakarta. All too grey in my opinion. These two taken at night around BSD area (Jakarta suburb). The first bridge photo didn't came out too dark, but the other four photos in the roll came out just show light leaks like the second picture, and I don't know why.  *  I use pentax espio 140 v, it's silver, can zoom 3x and really cute. I'm still looking for a new roll and wanted to capture things again. Enough about analog camera, ...
